With heavy hearts but full of beautiful memories, we announce that Darius Stephon McPherson departed this life on Thursday, July 24, 2025, surrounded by his family who meant everything to him. Born on January 31, 1995, to Cheryl E. McPherson and Curtis Barber at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, Darrius brought light and laughter into this world from his very first breath.
Those who knew Darrius understood that his love for his mother was unmatched-she truly was the light of his life. His devotion to family extended especially to his cherished grandparents, and he was well known throughout Waverly Hall for his adventures with his beloved granddad "Hot Poppa" and for the special bond he shared with his grandmother "Honey." These relationships shaped the man he became: someone whose huge heart was only rivaled by his infectious sense of humor.
Darrius was a young man unafraid to chase his dreams. After graduating from high school in Fayetteville, North Carolina, he earned certifications in EKG and Financial Banking from Fayetteville Technical Community College. With characteristic courage and optimism, he ventured to Texas to pursue a career in Customer Service, but his deep love for family eventually called him home to Fayetteville, where he could be close to and support his beloved mother, Cheryl.
Darrius was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Lillie Bell "Honey" Barber and George "Hot Poppa" Barber and maternal grandfather, Glen T. McPherson.
He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted mother, Cheryl E.
McPherson of Fayetteville, NC; his father, Curtis Barber of Manchester, Georgia; his sister D'Neisha McPherson of Autryville, NC; and his brother Tanner Barber of Pine Bluff, NC. Darrius was a beloved uncle to his nephew, Dallas McPherson, and his niece, Terrelyn Myers, both of Autry ville, NC and a treasured grandson to his maternal grandmother, Mary G. McPherson of Fayetteville, NC. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whose lives were made brighter by his presence.
Though our hearts ache with his absence, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, humor, and an abundance of love. Darrius's legacy lives on in every laugh he inspired, every life he touched, and in the unbreakable bonds of family that he held so dear.
