James McCoy was born February 20, 1961, in Manchester, GA, to the late Gertrude McCoy and Albert Steed.
He attended Meriwether County schools, where he graduated from Manchester High School in the class of 1980. After high school, James enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army, he became a heavy wheel mechanic at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA, and achieved the Good Conduct Medal.
After the military, James pursued a career with the United States Postal Service where he worked for many years and retired. Also while at the post office, he became a Union Steward.
James entered into eternal rest on October 18, 2023, in Columbus, GA, at Piedmont Hospital North Campus.
Preceding him in death were both his parents, Gertrude McCoy and Albert Steed; two brothers, Walter McCoy (Aeordell) and Willie McCoy (Barbara); and aunt, Linda Buchanan.
James leaves to cherish his memories: his one son, Desmond McCoy; three sisters, Peggy McCoy, Alice Steed, and Mary Revell; two brothers, Jessie Steed and James Owens; he had several nieces and nephews whom he loved and called often to express his love and concern; and he also leaves to cherish a host of cousins, co-workers, other family, and friends who loved him dearly.
