The Life of Jimmy L. Dowell
A time to be born:
Jimmy Dowell, better known as Bo Pete, was born on May 27,1951 in Meriwether County to the late James Dowell Sr. and Cornelia Dowell. He passed away on April 25,2024, at the age of 72, in Columbus, GA at St. Francis Hospital.
A time to grow and flourish:
Jimmy loved golfing, fishing, grilling, watching football, and spending time with family. At an early age he became a member of Leverette Hill Baptist Church. Jimmy graduated from Meriwether County Training School in May of 1970. He married the love of his life of 53 years, Shirley Dowell, in July of 1970.
Shortly afterwards he was drafted in the United States Army, where he obtained additional education and training. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he became employed with CSX railroad and retired after 19 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister;and a brother in law Eddie Johnson(Gladys)
Forever In Our Heart:
Jimmy L. Dowell leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife Shirley Dowell; three sons, Timothy Dowell(Amy), Lamarcus Dowell(Angela), and Cardero Dowell; one brother James Dowell Jr.(Dorothy); one sister, Carrie Turner(William); mother in law, Virginia Buchanan: one brother in law, Dennis Johnson(Tasha); three sister in laws, Catherine Johnson, Rosemary Johnson, and Angela Johnson; four grandchildren, Aneasha Holmes, Shaquila Dowell, Aikeriya Dowell, and Lamarcus Dowell Jr.; three bonus grandchildren, Ariana Brawner(Kalil), Aniya White, and Azyion Copeland; five great grandchildren; a special niece Sherrica Prather; a special nephew Jarvis Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who love him dearly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 4,2024,11:00 am @ Leverette Hill Baptist Church, 20 Leverette Hill Rd Warm Springs,GA 31830. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Pastor T.W. Neal officiating
