Mrs. Mary Joyce Adams Gates was born to the late Mary Ann Simon and Eddie B. Maines on March 13,1948 in Gay,GA.
She had three sons who preceded her in death, Timothy, Lawrence, and Rodney Adams; three brothers, Joseph, Milton, and Ralph Simon; and her first husband, Mr. Ulysses Adams, Jr., preceded her in death.
She was the oldest of thirteen children. She joined Faith Chapel Holiness Church at an early age where she served faithfully on the Mother Board until her health declined, and she loved spending time with family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her very loving and devoted husband, Mr. Willie Lee Gates; four daughters, Shelia (Jim) Bussey, Latrenda (Willie Ray) Bell, Sonya (Timothy) Hall, and Ullonda Adams; three sons, Stevenson (Michelle) Adams, Jerry Adams, and Alvin (Latwanna) Adams; eight sisters, Carolyn Simon, Arsie Hughley, Virginia (George) Dennis, Brenda (Anthony) Joseph, Annie Doris (Willie) Weems, Grace (Larry) Stargell, Barbara Simon, and Deborah (John) Dennis; brother, Mark (Sylvia) Simon; three sisters-in- law, Mary Keith, Betty Gates, and Cindy (Stanford) Taylor; two brothers-in-law, John and Eddie Gates; special lifetime friend, Mrs. Rena Adams; twenty-nine grandkids and fifty- one great-grandkids; with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
