Mattie Lee Bell Harris was born on May 16, 1931, to the late Clifford Bell and Rosa Lee Bell in Meriwether County, Georgia. She was the third of five children.
Mattie joined Red Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age and served on the Mother Board. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Bernice Chapter No. 234. Mattie attended school at Red Oak Grove Church. She worked at Milliken in LaGrange for 15 years, JC Laramore Detention Center, in College Park,GA, and the GBI office in Greenville.Mattie loved fishing, gardening, reading the Bible, socializing, talking with friends and family and traveling. She liked to cook and share meals with friends/neighbors when needed.
Mattie was called home to eternal rest on Wednesday July 16, 2025 at Wellstar Hospice, LaGrange GA. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Frank Harris, Sr., her mother and father, one sister Dorothy Mae Talley, and seven grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories: with her beloved children, Charlie (Debora) Harris of Fayetteville, GA, Roosevelt (Willie Mae) Harris of Pine Mountain, GA, Estelle Gordon of Riverdale, GA, Annette (Ezra) Wyche of Cochran, GA, Dianne Smith of Manchester, GA, Brenda (Vincent) Harris of Rome, GA, Deborah Harris of Cochran, GA, Bennie Frank (Shirley) Harris, Jr., of Tampa, FL, and Denise Harris of Greenville, GA.;three sisters Dora Mae Tiller, of Manchester, GA, Cliffert Ann Partridge of Greenville, GA and Grace Louise Caldwell of LaGrange, GA. ; two sister-in-laws Mildred Blalock and Rosa Walker of Greenville, Georgia; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
