Mellisa Hayes, the daughter of the late Virgil Lee Hayes, Sr. and the late Martha Jean Hayes-Mitchell, was born on September 15, 1959, in Warm Springs, Georgia. She was raised in a loving family.
From an early age, Mellisa was taught to know Christ and walked boldly enjoying life unapologetically. She accepted Christ at an early age , and was baptized by Reverend Leon Tucker at Thankful Baptist Church.
Lisa as she was affectionately called, attended Atlanta Public School System. She spread love cooking , entertaining, and taking care of her family. Lisa had a passion for fashion and ensuring her family needs were met. She always made sure she told her family she loved them. Lisa was hilarious and outspoken .
Mellisa departed this life on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother Sallie P. Owens, a sister Angelia L. Hayes and her brother Craig Tyrone Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her devoted son and daughter in love, Antonio Hayes Sr.(Chasity) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; three beloved grandchildren, Fe’lepa Darty, Antonio Hayes Jr., and Ma’Lissia Hayes, all of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Serenity Darty and Ma’Laya Darty; four loving sisters, Deadra Hayes of Atlanta, Georgia, Wanda Dozier and Tannish Hayes-Knowles of Stonecrest,GA; and Angelia McCoy of Woodbury, Georgia; one brother, Virgil Hayes, Jr. of Woodbury, Georgia; a loving aunt who was also like a mother Lena Mae Brown of Atlanta,GA ; a life long companion Willie Ferrell ;nieces Deadra Hayes, Sabel Tucker, Crystal Dozier, Jasmine Knowles, and Taniyria Holt; nephews Anthony Holt Sr., DeAngelo McCoy(Robin), Santrevias McCoy(Shekeva), Damonnee Walker, James Knowles III, Sandrick Dozier,and Anthony Holt Jr. and other relatives, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Mellisa’s life was a reflection of love and devotion to family. She will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
