On April 4, 1923, God granted a great gift to the world, Thelma Lee Holmes to the late Mrs. Lucy Lee Holmes Wilson (the late George Wilson) and the late Horace Cofield. She was born in Manchester, Georgia. Preceding her in death were her sons, Horace Holmes and Richard Holmes; daughter-in-law, Olivayon Holmes; daughters, Virginia Holmes Stevenson and Brenda Dennis Holt; and grandchildren, Brian (Horse) Stevenson and Arnita (Fruity) Mack.
Thelma loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She joined New Hope Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Spring Hill Baptist Church under Reverend Otis King where she loved singing and giving praises to God through singing in the choir.
Thelma, also known to her family as “Muh” and “Granny,” was a loving, caring, kind-hearted person, daughter, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, cousin, and friend who loved to cook. She will be truly missed by all!
She attended the MCT School in Manchester, Georgia. She worked several jobs in her lifetime including at the Mill, the Trolley Car Café, and as a housekeeper for the Loftin family for many years until she retired.
On Monday, February 6, 2023, Thelma departed this life when God called the matriarch of the family home at Wellstar Hospital in LaGrange, Georgia.
Thelma leaves to cherish her legacy: her loving and devoted family and friends: her daughter, Betty Holmes; granddaughters, Sonya Holmes, Brigette Trice, Sherriah Johnson, Donya Holt, and Wanda Holmes; grandsons, Willie Stevenson, Jr. (Wymeka), Ricky Holmes (Monique) Calvin (Petie) Hawkins, Eric “Worm” Trice, and Patrick Marshall; great-grandchildren, Briontene Stevenson, Quartez Stevenson, Milan Johnson, Ramez Stevenson, KeyAnthony Archer, Markevius Holmes, Rodnecia Mack, Christian Trice, Patrick Marshall, Jr., and Markevius Holmes II; very special loving and devoted bonus daughter, Stella Revell and Jaynie NeSmith; and a host of cousins and friends.
