Virgil Hayes Obituary

Virgil Lee Hayes, was born on January 17, 1939 to the late Virgil Hayes, Sr. and the late Lillian Mullins in Warm Springs, Georgia.

He was the youngest of two children and accepted Christ at a very early age. He completed his education in Manchester, Georgia.  

Virgil enjoyed life to the fullest. The legacy of his spirit, passion and love for people, family, friends, and building things will live on through his children. He was a fun person who traveled tocasinos, watch Georgia Public Television, documentaries, and wore stylish hats.

Prior to retiring from Dekalb County after twenty-five years of service as a senior carpenter and supervisor with the Parks and Recreation Division, he was the proud owner of a construction company in Atlanta Georgia before selling his portion of the business to his partner. He and his partner built many of the homes in the Church Hill Downs subdivision area in Decatur, Georgia and many of the homes in Atlanta, Georgia. 

He spent his retirement years living in Alabama where he cherished his community, neighbors and friends.

Virgil is preceded in death by his great aunt Rosa Mullins, brother Willie Britain, and daughter Angelia L. Hayes.

He is survived by his(second) wife Julia and their daughter Tannish Hayes-Knowles; his late (first) wife Martha and their children, Virgil Hayes, Melissa Darlene Hayes, Deadra Hayes, and Angelia McCoy (step daughter); Wanda Tucker Dozier and her mother Ruby Kindell.

 

He leaves his grandchildren to cherish his memory; Anthony Holt, Sr., Antonio Hayes, Sr. (Chasity), James Knowles, III, Jasmine Knowles, Deadra Hayes, Da-monnee Walker, BridgetHarris; Sable Antwinean Tucker, Crystal Dozier; Sandrick Dozier, Sanchez McCoy and Santrevias McCoy.

 

Great grandchildren Felepa Darty, Antonio Hayes, Jr. Malissia Hayes, Ma’Laya Darty, Serenity Darty, Tanera Holt, Anthony Holt, Jr., Jquante Tucker, Isaiah Torres, Javarous Dozier, Quintavious Dozier, Amilyah Dozier, Sanarey Dozier, and Sandrece Dozier.

Sister and Brother-in laws, Naomi Williams, Gloria Turner(Jeff), Edna O’Neal (Paul), Lena Mae Brown, Johnny Glover(Julia), Larry Glover; Nieces, Yekether Barnes, Cynthia Barnes Barber, Patricia Britain, Tempy Bernice Holloway, Joe Ann Holloway, Melanie Holloway, Blondie Glover, Shakeila Moore; Nephews, Markee Glover, Frankie Lee Darden, and other relatives and friends.
