William Giddens Obituary

William “Scotty” Giddens was born February 1, 1966, to his parents, Mrs. Mary Joyce Thompson and Mr. George William Giddens, in Manchester, Georgia.

Scotty was educated in the Meriwether and Talbot County school systems. He worked several years for Thomaston Mills, Inc. Thereafter, he attempted and achieved one of his personal childhood goals—to become a commercial truck driver. After several years of driving, he reached another major milestone by becoming an entrepreneur. His dream was to become an owner-operator of his own trucking company. Scotty worked tirelessly building his company until his health began to fail.

Although his health began to interfere with his personal goals, he remained resilient and determined, refusing to let his illness hinder his progress. Scotty was so determined that he used his “mini tractor and trailer” to provide beautiful lawn services to many family members and friends until he was physically unable.

Scotty possessed a spirit of humility, determination, and resilience. Moreover, he had a nurturing spirit that propelled him to lend a helping hand to anyone he could. Scotty loved his children deeply and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was a devoted grandson, son, father, grandaddy, brother, uncle, and friend.

On March 12, 2026, Mr. William “Scotty” Giddens surrendered his sweet spirit, departed from his physical body, and entered into eternal rest.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, G. W. Thompson; grandmother, Madeline Buchanan; great-grandmother, Mary Ledbetter; brother, Roger Stevenson; uncles, Sonny Gatewood, Jack Johnson, Jimmy White, Willie Frank Mahone, and Larry Weaver; aunts, Mary V. Johnson, Geraldine Glenn, and Doris Barron; and stepbrother, Byron Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Mrs. Mary Joyce Thompson and Mr. George (Charlene) Giddens; three children, Scottavious (Erica) Giddens and Andrienne Stephens of Thomaston, GA, and Angelica (Anthony) Stephens-Riley of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Trent, Ava, Jahon, Rayelle, and Leighton; grandmother, Mrs. Odessa Hardnett of Woodland, GA; one brother, Stephen (Ann) Giddens; six sisters, Joann Giddens Johnson, Miriam (Michael) Copeland, Brenda Johnson, Nicole (Cornelius) Ellison, Monica (Anthony) Warrior, and Ebonye (Ylottis) Holt; five stepbrothers and stepsisters, Gregory Thompson, Marcus (Evelyn) Thompson, Angela (Jerome) McKenzie, Patricia Caldwell, and Nancy Smith; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Final arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of McCoy Funeral Home, 127 W. Second Street, Manchester, GA.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM at McCoy Funeral Home (Lizzie Bowles Memorial Chapel) with Pastor Julia Leonard officiating.
